I love gum!

Ask me about gum!

Anonymous asked: (previous question was incorrect) What happened to the Extra ORIGINAL Bubble Gum flavor? Can its flavor be found in another Wrigley product?

Sadly, it was discontinued and now there’s only Classic Bubble for Extra. I found a confirmation for that on Gum Alert’s blog. A comment below said that the closest they could get to it was Orbit Strawberry Remix, though they also said it wasn’t the same. Maybe if we all work hard on this we could get it back!

Anonymous asked: do you know where i can find the raspberry vanilla gum? Thank you!

So far I have found the single packs at Target and the 3-pack at Walmart. It’s very new so you may have to give some stores a bit of time.

Orbit for Kids Strawberry Banana
Location Purchased: Target
I was so excited to see a flavor for children other than bubblegum! This is a perfect flavor for kids. I know I loved the flavor of strawberry banana yogurt when I was younger, the smooth banana, the tangy strawberry, the tasty sweetness of them together… oh the yummy times!
Package/Presentation
The package is the same as other Orbit packages, all the way down to the wrappers on the individual pieces of gum. The gum is also the same size and shape. What you may not expect is that the actual gum is a pastel yellow. As I said before, this is being marketed to kids because of its introduction of xylitol, an artificial sweetener that does not promote fermentation, and therefore, does not produce acid that can eat away at your teeth. However, there are still the other normal artificial sweeteners that do ferment in this gum in lesser quantities than normal.
Experience
The flavor is something to behold. The strawberry part is tangy, much like the fruit itself. It’s closer to actual strawberries than other strawberry gums! The banana, on the other hand, totally has a candy banana flavor, Runts, to be exact! I swear it’s just like banana Runts! The gum has that cooling, sweet feeling from the xylitol, but it is not as obvious as the bubblegum. I can chew this longer without longing for another piece. Though I feel that there is a bit of an aftertaste, and it’s strange, my mouth tastes/feels great, but the gum is starting to taste bad/different than my mouth. It’s not enough to make me stop chewing. But BE WARNED! Adding another piece after chewing one for a while makes the new gum taste sour! I guess this could keep kids from having another piece? Or maybe they’ll like it? It’s actually not bad and makes for a different experience.
Afterthoughts
I’m really wondering what will be the next flavors that we will see! Cause at the moment the only loved flavor of children I can think of is mac’n’cheese. I’m sure we will not see that! Maybe a sour flavor? Children seem to LOVE sour as much as sweet, but it will have to get sweeter while you chew. I’m just hoping to see some great, kid friendly, flavors that we don’t normally see otherwise.

Anonymous asked: Are you worried that one day you will have no teeth to chew gum with.

O_O

I try to not think about it… I do a decent job with oral hygiene, but I am prone to cavities (proven by a microbiology lab). It’s a possibility, and if it happens I will get some strong, gum chewing dentures.

Anonymous asked: Is the desser delights key lime pie discontinued?

From my quick scouring of the internet, I want to say yes. Extra’s website does not show it anymore. Many people are asking about it. It does not seem to appear on the Facebook page of Extra either. I’ll try to contact the company to make sure, but I want to say yes.

And now I go sit in the corner and cry about the loss of an amazing gum.

Edits

Just to let you guys know, I sometimes go back and read what I wrote and go WTF. I change what needs to be changed but don’t make a big deal of it. If you would like me make a production, I will. I just think you guys correct what I say in your heads and get the gist.

Do you want me to tell you about edits?

emruth asked: I just wanted to thank you for this blog. I'm very picky when it comes to gum, preferring the raspberry flavor that is so hard to find. Thank you for introducing me to the various kinds of raspberry gum that are so hard to find. :D

You are welcome! I have now seen the Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake (if that is the one you are referring to) at Walmart in a 3-pack! Give Target a couple of days, I work there so I see the candy early!

I do my homework for you guys, I go to stores and check checklanes and candy isles. I usually go into gas stations when I go pump gas, and scour the internet every once in a while! It’s a passion, and making sure that you guys have all the info is what I am trying to do! <3

What an interesting concept to target children! When I think of sugar free gum, I think of teenagers and adults. The sugar sweetened ones are more for kids. Who didn’t gnaw on some Bubble Tape back in the day??
This gum differs from the normal Orbit by one ingredient: xylitol. Yes, it is now making an appearance in Orbit. It is said that xylitol does not ferment so it never produces acid, which keeps our teeth from wearing away from acid erosion. It’s not the only artificial sweetener in here so people who are allergic to phenylalainine. I am also noting that it contains soy lecithin, for allergy’s sake. I don’t want a poor child going into anaphylactic shock on my watch!
The package itself is the same as all others- 14 little sticks wrapped in paper inside of a package with an interesting design when you take off the plastic wrapper.
Experience
The gum has the same texture and consistency as all Orbit gum. The flavor is bubblegum, with the hint of xylitol. I swear I can tell when xylitol is involved, it always has and sweet, slightly cooling, smoothness. The downfall of the inclusion of xylitol is that the flavor of it is short lived. It still has some flavor afterwards, but it is not the cooling sweetness of xylitol. (Maybe I just really love the flavor of that stuff??) I keep finding myself popping new pieces to relive the initial bliss of flavor.
But, overall, I think that this is a good direction for gum. Saving teeth is important, especially for more gum chewing! :)

Extra Dessert Delights Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake
Location purchased: Target
Package/Presentation
I was not expecting a cupcake!! And raspberry?! Nowhere on my radar! I was expecting Bananas Foster since we got Lemon Squares, but I will gladly accept this since raspberry, as well as vanilla, is a rare gum flavor. True to the other packages, the main colors of the dessert are the colors if the package- magenta, beige, pink, and white. The package holds fifteen sugar free sticks wrapped in silver foil. The package secures by folding the top over and slipping the tab in the indented spot in the back.
Experience
Such a candy fragrance! I can smell a smooth, sweet raspberry scent. I’m sure it smells smooth from the vanilla. The taste is mostly a candy raspberry at first, as the raspberry fades, a hint of vanilla sneaks out. This is not the taste of a cupcake, nor the frosting, but it is sweet and pleasant. The flavor fades well so there is no awkward flavor and keeps sweet for quite a while. The consistency is good, the gum does seem to get a bit harder as you chew.
I have had two friends try this gum and both enjoyed it. I think it will do well as long as people don’t expect it to be a dead ringer for the actual dessert.
